I do agree – it is very hard to convey what one wants when personally lacking artistic skills. Finding examples on google images and sending those to my designer is my way – but it’s not always easy to find what one is trying to convey…

I’m currently struggling with the cover issue for a middle-grade mystery. The feel just has not been right. I identify with your comments re: content and tone. Not being artistically inclined, I find it difficult to communicate my thoughts to my designer. Finding a designer who “gets” the story is a gift, indeed.

Thank you, Nancy! Yes, I agree that before a word is read the cover is the draw – so it’s key to get it right.

A book cover is very important because it is the first thing a person sees when shopping for a book.
People have actually told me that they were attracted to my books by the covers. I am writing a Memoir which is a series of fore books. Each book cover is an actual picture of my husband and I. These pictures also give people an insite into the styles of the period of time during those years.
I think it is also important what is written on the back of the book as a blurb. You pick up a book by the draw of the book cover then you flip it over to read the blurb to see if you a futher drawn into reading the book.
God Bless You and I enjoyed your post.
Nancy
